social investmentAs one of the major industrial businesses in Mpumalanga, York Timbers believes it has a duty to contribute meaningfully to the well being of both South Africa and the Mpumalanga province. York Timbers investment profile stretches from National Government right down to Local Government and comprises, in the main, of providing support and facilitation services to the myriad of stakeholders in an effort to improve the delivery profile of the many National Governmental initiatives.
York Timbers fully supports the National Government economic program called ASGISA (Accelerated Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa). York Timbers takes pride in its PPP (Public, Private Partnerships) initiatives with various national government departments. York Timbers participates fully with DWAF (Department of Water Affairs and Forestry), DLA (Department of Land Affairs), DEA (Department of Environmental Affairs) and other governmental departments and commissions. The involvement of York Timbers at this level is acknowledged and appreciated by the many stakeholders that we deal with on a continuous basis.
York Timbers is proud to be in the province that embraces change and that is aspiring to create a better life for the people of Mpumalanga. Mpumalanga is alive with possibilities and with the World Cup 2010 looming, York Timbers hope to achieve more by enabling the provincial initiative called MEGA (Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency), which was created for the purpose of financing the SMME’s within the province. As a conduct between small start up entrepreneurs and Provincial Government, York Timbers plays a key role in ensuring the available funding finds its way to the many opportunities that exist.
At the District Governmental level York Timbers provide assistance to bodies and the district governments so that they can play a critical role in advising the local governments on various initiatives such as SDF (spatial development framework), housing, water & sanitation and infrastructure. This is a vital role given the challenges faced by Local Government after years of neglect which have created huge backlogs in infrastructural service delivery.
The local governments that York Timbers deal with are Thaba Chweu (Sabie & Graskop) and Msukaligwa (Jessievale). Most challenges that the resident urban and rural communities are faced with depend heavily on the implementation of the local government IDP (Integrated development plans). Again, through providing an effective interface between these key players, York Timbers make a difference on an ongoing basis.
